Public Interest Disclosures

The Public Interest Disclosure (PID) Act 2022 (the Act) was established, to facilitate the disclosure by public officials of serious wrongdoing in or affecting the public sector, to promote a culture in which public interest disclosures are encouraged and to protect public officials, witnesses and other persons from detriment or liability that may arise as a result of public interest disclosures.

WSLHD has adopted the NSW Health's Policy Directive PD2023_026 Public Interest Disclosures (the Policy) for making and managing PIDs and has established procedures, WSYD-PCP203037 Public Interest Disclosures (Internal Reporting) to support the Policy and the Act. 

To be considered a PID within WSLHD, the following criteria applies:

  • The reporter must be an employee of, or otherwise in the service of WSLHD

  • The report is about the conduct of another employee of, or otherwise in the service of WSLHD

  • The reporter honestly believes, on reasonable grounds that the information they are reporting shows, or tends to show, wrongdoing

  • The report involves any of the following:

    • Corrupt conduct

    • A government information contravention

    • A privacy contravention

    • A serious and substantial waste of public money

    • A local government pecuniary interest contravention

Reports can be made in writing or verbally, however, reporters are strongly encouraged to make their report in writing as this can avoid confusion or misinterpretation. This WSLHD Template-Internal-Reporting-Form has been created to assist in making a public interest disclosure reports.
