Developmental Disabilities Service

The Developmental Disabilities Service is an outpatient service located at Westmead Hospital. The service provides multidisciplinary rehabilitation assessment, review and monitoring of adults with developmental disabilities. This service is provided through eight specialist rehabilitation outpatient clinics including:

• Physical Disabilities clinic
  Multi-disciplinary assessment, review and monitoring of adults with a developmental disability/s which include physical disabilities e.g., Cerebral Palsy. Our aim is to help you achieve goals to improve your everyday life.
• Developmental Disabilities Spasticity clinic
  Multi-disciplinary assessment and management of adults with spasticity which results from a developmental disability such as Cerebral Palsy. Management may include Botulinum Toxin A injections if clinically recommended.
• Dysphagia clinic
  Assessment, review and monitoring of adults with a wide range of swallowing disorders. Ongoing dietetic, speech pathology, medical and nursing support around dysphagia/nutrition and review of developmental disabilities.
• Spina bifida clinic
  Comprehensive assessment, review, monitoring and support of neurological and orthopaedic aspects of Spina Bifida including shunt, bladder/bowel function, skin problems, pain and its management.
• Rett Syndrome clinic
  Assessment, review and monitoring of adults with diagnosed Rett Syndrome. Our aim is to help you achieve goals to improve your everyday life.
• Down Syndrome clinic
  Assessment, review and monitoring of adults with diagnosed Down Syndrome. Our aim is to help you achieve goals to improve your everyday life.
• Baclofen pump refill clinic
  Assessment, review and monitoring of adults who have a Baclofen pump for managing spasticity and require regular pump refills.
