Businesses must notify the Public Health Unit if there has been a pollution incident that will cause or threaten the environment.

The NSW Protection of the Environment Operations Act regulates notifiable incidents.

The NSW Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is the lead agency however NSW Health is also required to be notified.
