The Westmead Psychotherapy Program (WPP) is based at the Mental Health Sciences Centre (Building 112 on the Cumberland Hospital Campus). The program provides a range of opportunities for individual psychotherapy, ranging from acute and brief to longer-term interventions. The focus of the program is on the treatment of Mental Disorders that have a strong link to the experience of trauma and/or loss, particularly complex trauma, founded in traumatic experience early in life or relational trauma. Apart from providing therapy, WPP also provides training, education, supervision and research through the University of Sydney and within the Western Sydney Local Health District. WPP works closely with other groups within WSLHD and helps with the supervision of psychological care for Acute and Community Mental Health Services. Along with training WSLHD clinicians, we offer a degree program through the University of Sydney, which now includes a Master of Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy), Master of Science in Medicine (TIP) and Graduate Certificate / Graduate Diploma in Medicine / Science in Medicine (TIP). It is the only University level training available in trauma-informed psychodynamic psychotherapy in Australia.
The staff, alumni and affiliates of the program are involved in liaison and advocacy for complex trauma, Trauma-Informed Care and Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy.
