CIDM - Public Health

The Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology - Public Health (CIDM-PH) is an interdisciplinary translational research group within the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Departments of the Western Sydney LHD, ICPMR-NSW Health Pathology, and is affiliated with Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases, The University of Sydney. With invaluable support from the NSW Health Prevention Research Support Program,  CIDM-PH are undertaking research to improve laboratory and epidemiological investigations of communicable diseases, the causative agents and their vectors. Our scientists work with a broad range of viral, bacterial and fungal pathogens.

Our goals are to improve the prevention and control of communicable diseases by:
  • developing, evaluating and implementing innovative pathogen identification and   characterisation;
  • integrating high-resolution laboratory surveillance data into early warning systems and laboratory networks to advance public health research;
  • translating research findings into laboratory and public health practice.
