Our Children's Ward at Mount Druitt Hospital provides General Paediatric care. We also host General Paediatric Outpatient Clinics and Paediatric Allergy Clinics, and our Outreach Service supports children in the community with complex medical problems.
Our Newborn Care service at Blacktown Hospital provides the full range of Level 4 Nursery services.

Service overview
Our Paediatric and Neonatology Teams work closely with the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network to ensure children have access to sub-speciality paediatric services when needed. We are committed to Closing the Gap and providing best-practice care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and are equally committed to providing best-practice care to culturally and linguistically diverse and disadvantaged populations.
Children's Ward - Mount Druitt Hospital
We provide General Paediatric, and some General Surgical and Orthopaedic Care.
The ward is supported by our Ambulatory Clinic, which provides short term follow-up for children discharged from the Children's Ward or Emergency Department.
The ward includes a purpose designed play room, a Child Life Therapist, and a landscaped outdoor garden space.
Newborn Care service - Blacktown Hospital
Our Newborn Care service provides the full range of Level 4 Nursery services (including CPAP) to babies born at Blacktown Hospital and to babies being transferred back from tertiary neonatal intensive care units.
The Newborn Care service is also supported by a Feeding Clinic.
Emergency Departments - Blacktown & Mount Druitt Hospitals
Emergency Departments are located at both Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals with a dedicated paediatric service on both sites.
Children who present to Blacktown Hospital Emergency Department and who require admission will be transferred to the Mount Druitt Hospital Children's Ward.
Outpatient Clinics - Mount Druitt Hospital
We host the following outpatient clinics:
- General Paediatric Clinics
- Paediatric Allergy Clinics
- Skin Prick Testing (referrals from specialists only)
- Food Challenge Clinics
- Audiology services
- Eye Clinics.
Children’s Outreach Service (COS) - Mount Druitt Hospital
Our Children's Outreach Service ensures the continuation of care from hospital to the home. We check progress and review patients, and connect families with their GP or specialist services if required.
Who we see
Our Children's Ward cares for children aged 0 up to 16 years.
Our Newborn Care Service cares for babies down to 32 weeks gestation who require Level 4 Nursery services (including CPAP).

The referral letter must contain a detailed medical history. If appropriate, it must also include school reports, psychometric or behavioural assessments and any other relevant Allied Health reports.

Referrals to the Paediatric Allergy Clinic are accepted from both GPs and specialists. Referrals for Skin Prick Testing are only accepted from specialists, including Paediatricians, Dermatologists, and ENT Surgeons.

Paediatrics
Our Paediatric Nursing Team includes our Nurse Unit Manager, a Clinical Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Educator, Nurse Practitioner and our paediatric trained Registered and Enrolled Nurses.
Our Paediatric Medical Team includes Consultant Paediatricians, Fellows (Senior Trainees) and rotating junior medical staff.
Neonatology
Our Neonatology Nursing Team includes our Nurse Unit Manager, a Clinical Nurse Consultant and Clinical Nurse Educator and our neonatal and paediatric trained Registered and Enrolled Nurses.
Our Neonatology Medical Team includes Consultant Neonatologists and Paediatricians, Fellows (Senior Trainees), and rotating junior medical staff.
