Our Aboriginal workforce is critical to serving the health needs of our diverse Western Sydney community. That’s why at Western Sydney Local Health District, we launched the Aboriginal Workforce Strategy 2022 – 2026 which underpins Better West, Good Health – Great Jobs, and Closing the Gap priorities to provide direction on we attract, recruit, retain and develop our Aboriginal workforce.

We are actively working towards increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation across all areas and experience levels at WSLHD. We currently employ 178 First Nations people, representing 1.27% of our total workforce, as of April 2023. Our goal is to increase the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to 2.6% of our total workforce. Our commitment towards Aboriginal representation across all areas and experience levels at WSLHD is further supported by our Aboriginal Workforce Plan, as well as our range of recruitment programs, initiatives and support services.

Safe Wayz Aboriginal Senior Clinician

We are looking for a Safe Wayz Clinician for the coordination of the Program within WSLHD, sitting within the Integrated Violence Prevention & Response Service (IVPRS) structure. The position is based at Blacktown Hospital and involves adopting a strength based, family focused, culturally centred, trauma informed approach to working with children and families to help prevent problematic or harmful behaviours from escalating.  Find out more 

Aboriginal Sexual Assault Counsellor IVPRS

The Aboriginal Sexual Assault Counsellor sits within the Integrated Violence Prevention & Response Service (IVPRS). This role is responsible for the provision of specialist therapeutic and case management services to adult and child victims of sexual assault and their non-offending family members.  Find out more 

Aboriginal Health Education Officer - Palliative Care

The Aboriginal Health Education Officer - Palliative Care will improve access to and understanding palliative and supportive care services within the Aboriginal community and to assist in the provision of culturally appropriate services.  Find out more 

Aboriginal Female Counsellor

This position will collaborate with local service providers in the provision of programs related to engaging with the local Aboriginal communities and providing direct counselling to identified New Street clients. The Aboriginal Female Counsellor will also undertake community development and capacity building with local Aboriginal communities.  Find out more
