Am I eligible for the program?

Potential candidates are required to hold an undergraduate degree from a recognised university, must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia.

If your undergraduate degree is from an overseas university you should confirm with the University of Tasmania that it is recognised. Contact the University at sue.thomson@utas.edu.au.

Do I need health or management experience?

Previous experience in health or management is not required but is beneficial for applicants. The program is not suited to people with extensive management experience as it is a development program for future managers and leaders within the system.

What work will I be doing as a Health Management trainee?

Trainees are involved in a range of tasks and projects at multiple levels within the health system. Completing tasks such as writing briefs, business cases, data analysis, finance, organising meetings and events, large scale projects with clinical and corporate teams in the district.

How is placement allocation decided?

For the first year the program supervisor organises the placements, ensuring that trainees are exposed to a range of different aspects of the health system. Second year placements however allow trainees to participate in the decision of allocation, giving the trainees the opportunity to provide preference for placements.

What happens at the end of the program?

Once graduated trainees may be offered a 12 month contract in a management position from the Chief Executive.
