The Department of Dermatology is a centre of excellence in Dermatology providing clinical, surgical, research and education services.

Dermatology is the study of the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes, of diseases affecting them, and of the cutaneous manifestations of systemic diseases.

Many subspecialties exist within dermatology, highlighting the scope and breadth of this area of medicine.

Skin cancers (onco-dermatology), inflammatory, infectious, immune disease, photodermatoses, genodermatoses and surgery are the main groups of pathologies.

The Westmead Hospital Department of Dermatology provides general and specialised service for a wide range of these skin disorders. Combined clinics with other specialties such as medical oncology, radiation oncology, immunology, nephrology, genetics and haematology, ensure a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to patient care.

One of our areas of expertise is Onco-Dermatology with specialised clinics for transplant patients (solid organ and bone marrow transplant), melanoma, high risk melanoma, and cutaneous lymphoma. We manage severe Psoriasis, severe Eczema, chronic Urticaria and Hidradenitis Suppurativa clinics and participate in the Westmead lupus clinic. UV light therapy is available as a Medicare service. Interpreter services are available for our patients and we also accept patients from justice health and aged care facilities who may have limited mobility (accompanied by an escort).
