Adolescent Young Adult (AYA) Ward

Established in 1983, the AYA ward at Westmead Hospital was the first dedicated inpatient Adolescent ward commissioned in Australia.

The AYA ward (B6c) is located on Level 6 of the A-B Block, Westmead Hospital.

Currently the ward is an eight-bed inpatient facility. Patients aged 14 years and 9 months till the end of high school are admitted if medically compromised for treatment of anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders.

The Adolescent ward has a long history of caring for young people with eating disorders.

Research and expert clinical experience underlie the philosophy of the program which is to provide a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment that enhances the opportunity to return to health within the context of individual, group, and family support.
