Group pregnancy care – this prenatal care takes place in a group setting on a Tuesday night 6pm – 8pm for each of your scheduled visits. During this time, the midwife will attend to your prenatal check and provide you with childbirth and parenting education. Partners are encouraged to attend.
Caseload – provides continuity of care with a midwife known to you. This midwife attends to your care prenatally, during labour and after the baby is born. See Caseload Midwives for more information.
Doctor lead care - this care is for women identified as having medical or obstetric problems that require an Obstetrician to monitor their pregnancy. Some women will chose to see a private Obstetrician for pregnancy and childbirth care or want to continue pregnancy care with their family doctor.
Doctor’s clinic –These clinics are Monday – Friday from 8.00am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 4.00pm in the Women’s Health Clinic on level 2. You will have care from an Obstetrician who specialises in your medical or obstetric problem. For more information on our Doctor’s clinics.
GP Shared Care– This is shared antenatal care with the hospital and your GP. Your GP needs to be accredited by the hospital to care for women during pregnancy. You attend the hospital for booking in, 18-20 week, 34-week visits and again at 40 weeks if you have not delivered the baby. All other visits will be with your GP who will refer you back to the hospital to see the Obstetrician if any problems arise. For more information on GP Shared care.
Private Obstetrician
As a private patient, you will need to book into the hospital so we know you will be delivering your baby with us. You will need to bring your blood tests and ultrasounds to the Booking- In appointment. If you do not bring copies of blood tests with you or the midwife cannot obtain a copy, you will be asked to have the blood tests again while at the hospital. Additional fees above health care insurance premiums may be applicable to this service. Please contact the Patient Finance Department for advice on costs as a private patient. To see a list of the Obstetricians available at Westmead, go to Specialist Profiles on this website.
