The ‘Having a Baby: Saturday program’ - consists of 2 sessions held on consecutive Saturdays. Each session runs for 6 hours, and includes a lunch break. The program consists of the Birth Course curriculum as well as content that will assist you in your journey as new parents. If you attend this program, you are entitled to attend a breastfeeding workshop free.
Birth Course at Westmead Hospital is a unique childbirth preparation that brings together only evidence based techniques and practices. The techniques that you learn for your birth in this course have been subjected to a randomised controlled trial (conducted by Kate Levett and published in the British Medical Journal in 2016). This trial demonstrated significantly improved outcomes for women and babies.
Topics include the following:
- Mind and body working together
- Labouring at home and when to come to hospital
- Positions for labour and birth – being active
- Birthing with confidence
- Evidence based Techniques for labour and birth
- Acupressure
- Massage
- Breathing and relaxation
- Tour of the Birth Unit
- Special circumstances: Medicine as back up
- Calming an unsettled baby
- Communicating with your baby
- Parenting issues – including postnatal depression, returning to work, roles and identities
- And more!!
Cost of the Saturday Workshop also includes free registration to the Antenatal Breastfeeding Workshop. The Antenatal Breastfeeding Workshop must be booked by selecting Bonus ticket after you select which breastfeeding workshop you wish to attend. You will be required to insert your Saturday workshop booking number to get the free registration.
