Early Childhood Unit (0-5 years):

  • Provides tertiary level assessment and therapy to children and their families living in Western Sydney. Programs are designed to assist children and families whose difficulties have persisted despite receiving intervention from community based & primary care professionals & services.
  • The ECU service is suitable for children with significant emotion regulation and social skills deficits, attention difficulties, disruptive and aggressive behaviour, feeding & sleep problems, as well as possible autistic spectrum disorders and anxiety disorders including separation anxiety and selective mutism. The children could be in out of home care or in their biological family – with parents or carers having  difficulty  managing the children or experiencing relationship conflict and parenting stress.
  • Any intervention by the team begins with a family-based assessment involving the child, parents/carers and other family members and consultation with community and educational services.
  • Programs offered by the team include:
    • The Early Intervention Program – a comprehensive multimodal program involving day attendance at Redbank School with groups and skills training for children, and groups and outpatient sessions for parents and carers.
    • Groups for parents, and for parents and children together (including Circle of Security Parenting Program and Between Child and Parent)
    • Outpatient sessions for parents and children
    • Assessment and consultation  and training for community teams and education services
