Are you interested in a placement at the Centre for Population Health, Western Sydney Local Health District?

Before contacting us - Please read the following:

We offer both undergraduate and postgraduate Health Promotion and Public Health student placements.

Currently we have student placement agreements in place with the following Universities:

  • Western Sydney University
  • University of Sydney
  • University of New South Wales
  • Macquarie University

Currently we host students from the following disciplines:

  • Environmental Health
  • Epidemiology
  • Health Promotion
  • Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Medicine (including Medicine in Context students)
  • Public Health

If your discipline is not mentioned above but your university is?

  • Good news - a student placement agreement is in place with Western Sydney Local Health District.
  • If the tasks listed below meet your placement requirements then we recommend speaking to your University about placement options within Centre for Population Health before contacting us.
  • We also offer Health Service Management placements to post-graduate students. These opportunities are limited and we recommend speaking to your University about placement options within the Centre for Population Health before contacting us.
  • If you are interested in a Marketing and Communications placement, we recommend speaking to your University about placement options within the Centre for Population Health before contacting us.

Online placement management system - ClinConnect

  • Local Health Districts use an online system called ClinConnect to book and manage student placements.
  • This system makes sure that all students have the required vaccinations, clearances and insurances. We cannot accept individual student placement requests via this system. Requests must come from partner universities.

Placement experience examples

  • Background research including literature reviews
  • Producing evidence-based reports or presentations
  • Program planning e.g. developing promotions or communications for community or stakeholder engagement.
  • Resource development or reviews.
  • Survey development and implementation.
  • Collecting and analysing data from surveys, observations, audits, focus groups, interviews etc.
  • Participation in day-to-day delivery of Public Health programs with the Communicable Diseases, Environmental Health and Immunisation teams. Examples include: high school vaccination program, swimming pool inspection, smoke-free environment inspections.

Are you looking for volunteer opportunity?

  • Unfortunately we currently cannot offer volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering please refer to https://www.wslhd.health.nsw.gov.au/Support-Us/Volunteer.
  • We also recommend asking your university or relevant non-government organisations such as Cancer Council whether they have any opportunities on offer.
