Digital screens can be great for learning, play and communication. However, too much time spent on screens can be unhealthy. Managing screen time frees up more time for other things like talking with family and friends, engaging with the world around us and non-screen activities like cooking meals and playing sports.
The Australian Government, Department of Health recommends the following:
- Infants younger than two, have no screen time
- Children aged 2–5, have no more than one hour per day
- Children and young people aged between 5–17 years have less than two hours a day of sedentary recreational screen time.
These time limits do not include the screen time spent on educational activities or for work.
Even small changes are beneficial to support healthier screen use.
