Westmead Hospital physiotherapists provide physiotherapy services to the Breast Cancer Institute. A senior clinician attends the multidisciplinary clinic to identify patients that are at risk of shoulder limitations post operatively or who have limited shoulder range post operatively. Physiotherapy also identifies patients who have an existing shoulder condition that may become an issue post operatively.
Physiotherapists provide individual treatments for breast cancer patients in the outpatient department as part of their musculoskeletal service. Patients are prescribed a home exercise program to assist with range and function.
The FAME (Fitness and Movement Exercise ) group provides the opportunity for breast cancer patients to attend a group exercise class which provides both resistance and aerobic exercises. This class runs once a week over a 12 week period.
