New volunteers in Mount Druitt Hospital's palliative care team
05 Aug 2016
Mount Druitt Hospital’s Palliative and Supportive Care service is now home to volunteers, who are keen to provide care and assistance to patients and their families.
Volunteers will work in the wards, offering companionship and comfort, along with hand massages and practical assistance to patients.
Mount Druitt Hospital’s Palliative Care volunteer co-ordinator Kylie Clark said she was on the look-out for volunteers, who could provide practical and emotional support to patients and their families.
“This volunteer program was introduced as a result of a state-wide review of the services available for palliative care patients,” she said.
“Palliative Care allows patients with a life-limiting illness to have the best quality of life while receiving this care.
“The volunteers will provide support to patients with a life-limiting illness, along with their families and carers.
"We are looking for people who are excellent listeners, warm, empathetic and compassionate, with a strong commitment to facilitating a patient’s needs and wishes.”
