Westmead Hospital student midwife Adriana Diab got some special on-the-job training when she delivered her newborn sister!
Baby Hannah was born directly into the arms of her 21-year-old sibling and passed straight to mum Katherine.
“It was just so beautiful,” Adriana said. “I passed the baby straight to mum and I was like ‘mum she’s here’.”
Mrs Diab said having her eldest daughter deliver her youngest daughter was one of her proudest moments.
“I loved having Adriana there,” she said. “She will always have such a special bond with her sister.”
Caseload midwife Rebecca Donavan said it was an extraordinary delivery.
“This was a rare opportunity and a privilege to witness something so personal for the family and to be part of their joy,” she said.
Hannah was born at 1.28pm on February 27, weighing 3.3kg.
