The western Sydney PDHPE Network is open to teachers from all schools teaching the K-6 syllabus in the local government areas of Blacktown, Cumberland, Parramatta and The Hills. Each term the PDHPE Network offers a 1.5 hour training session for teachers which is accredited at proficient teacher level by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Local schools host the PDHPE Network which is coordinated by the Live Life Well @ School team. Topics are usually linked to teaching physical education and often include teaching Fundamental Movement Skills, Gymnastics and Dance.
All participants receive a certificate upon completion of this training. Written feedback from attendees is used to determine choices for future sessions.
The network is all about professional development and sharing experiences.

| Last year Bunnings ran a fabulous PDHPE session on creating a healthy garden. This time around we will focus on soil regeneration of lapsed gardens. The session at Blacktown North Public School will include the following with lots of opportunities for questions.
1. The safe way to remove weeds/overgrowth without ‘poisoning’ the soil
2. What soil needs & why (healthy garden stems from healthy soil) –incorporating composting in this section
3. Products to use for the organic garden
4. How to most effectively use such products
5. Planting out the organic garden
Kylie is the Activity Organiser at Bunning’s who has a wealth of knowledge to tap into, making this an ideal session for schools wanting to implement a healthy garden at their school.
||Teach FMS through dance
Monday 28th October
7 Chetwynd Road, Merrylands 2160
Held at St Margaret Mary's Primary School (Merrylands), Teach FMS through dance will explore how you can teach fundamental movement skills through the medium of dance. To gain from this workshop you need no experience in Dance, only a willingness to learn about simple routines that children will love to do.
Working through a series of simple progressive dance skills, you will learn how to easily incorporate FMS into a dance session.
The session will also support you to teach with syllabus requirements to the fore:
• reflect the interest and abilities of students
• allows students great opportunities to practice physical skills, offer their input and give feedback
• provide students with the opportunities to demonstrate their understanding and application of skills
• show connection and progression of content and skill development for students
• teach content in an inclusive way.
This workshop will allow teachers to tick off multiple syllabus points and gain confidence in their ability to create fun dance routines that enhance student wellbeing in a fun, inclusive learning style.
The session will allow teachers to create a routine that is simple, effective and doesn’t take a ‘dancing queen’ or king to choreograph!
Monday 24th February 2020
Join us for this largely practical session for teachers at Yates Avenue Public School (Dundas), introducing you to some Fundamentals of Athletics that you can incorporate into your PDHPE program.
The workshop is led by Darren Wensor from Little Athletics who will breakdown into bite sized chunks, the basics of how to teach and develop, running, jumping and throwing. We will look at associated coaching cues and apply games to make all the skills accessible and fun for your students to learn and engage with.
The aim of this session is in line with Little Athletics mission “To develop children of all abilities by promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle through family and community involvement in athletic activities.”
You will also take away a games booklet from the session, a simple reference guide to make the session easily replicable.
The session will also provide the opportunity to learn more about the Little Athletics Program for Schools (LAPS) program, all Little Athletics Associations aim to deliver an outstanding educational athletic program that provides a high quality experience to every participant.
