Westmead Cardiology is at the forefront of cardiovascular research. We aim to find new treatments for common heart conditions, prevent people from dying of cardiac disease and to find better ways to deliver cardiac care to patients. Our research does this by using exciting technologies including stem cells, gene therapy, “app” technologies as well as novel imaging and interventional cardiac techniques.
Despite major advances in the treatment of cardiac disease, heart problems are still the leading cause of mortality in Australia and globally. Our lead researchers are primarily practising cardiologists at Westmead Hospital. Our first hand experience of the limitations of existing treatments and technology drives us to develop innovative new therapies, and our discoveries have direct relevance to patients.
