Guidance on the use of Generative AI
The NSW Artificial Intelligence Taskforce has recently released a guideline on the use of open source, or public Generative AI, that is important for us all to comply with.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the capability of computer systems to carry out tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, and decision-making. Generative AI, a subset of this technology, can create content like text, images, or other media using specialised models.
While Generative AI offers significant advantages and opportunities for healthcare, it also brings challenges that demand careful oversight, particularly in the areas of ethics, safety, governance, sustainability, privacy, security, and compliance with regulations.
Publicly available AI, such as ChatGPT, is trained on large, open datasets and is accessible to anyone. In contrast, private AI systems can use both public and private data, operating internally within organisations under tailored controls, guardrails, safeguards, and governance.
