Background: Clinicians require specific skills to teach or super- vise students in the workplace; however, there are barriers to accessing faculty member development, such as time, cost and suitability. The Clinical Supervision Support Across Contexts (ClinSSAC) programme was designed to provide acces- sible interprofessional educator training to clinical supervisors across a wide range of clinical settings.

Back to the Future - Competency-based training in health

Background: Competency-based training (CBT) was introduced into vocational education and training (VET) in the 1980s. While it has the benefits of standardisation, national consistency, transparency and accountability, ‘the elephant in the room’ (Black & Reich 2010) has been the reported growth of an audit ‘culture’ resulting in an intensification of work practices and concerns regarding the deprofessionalisation of teaching. This research looked at the impacts of CBT on a group of VET sector teachers. The session poses the question ‘what does this infer for the health industry as it embraces the introduction of CBT?

Simulation education is an important part of health care education and training. There is growing evidence to support the usefulness of simulation, especially in training for infrequently occurring situations, such as medical emergencies seen by dental practitioners.

CASP: 10 questions to help you make sense of qualitative research


Background: These checklists were designed to be used as educational pedagogic tools, as part of a workshop setting, therefore we do not suggest a scoring system. The core CASP checklists (randomised controlled trial & systematic review) were based on JAMA 'Users’ guides to the medical literature 1994 (adapted from Guyatt GH, Sackett DL, and Cook DJ), and piloted with health care practitioners.
