We are a tertiary teaching hospital with a level 1 trauma centre.
The ED has a team of dynamic and enthusiastic consultants, providing 16 hours per day cover. Basic, provisional and advanced trainees are well supported and teamwork is our mantra.
Westmead Emergency is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for provisional & advance training.
Teaching and education are our top priority. We have dedicated teaching streams for our provisional and advance trainee including preparation courses for both the primary & fellowship exams. Our consultants are also examiners with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine. Westmead Emergency Department is part of the Network 5 training network that includes Children’s Hospital Westmead ED, Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital ED, Nepean ED, Auburn ED, Orange Hospital ED & Tweeds Hospital ED.
With the establishment of the Emergency Medicine Research Unit, our trainees are encouraged to participate in research. Our consultants actively support 4.10 projects and there is also a simulation centre in the hospital for both education and teaching purposes.

Westmead Hospital is very close to Parramatta (within 30min of the CBD), the vibrant geographical centre of Sydney.
