Auburn Hospital Library offer a range of services including training, literature searches and interlibrary loans and document delivery. You can learn more about these and other services below.



How can I find items to borrow?
To find items to borrow use the Library Catalogue which can be used to find items held at Libraries within the Western Sydney Local Health District, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District and The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network.

You can borrow all Auburn Hospital Library items with the exception of serials which cannot be borrowed.

How many items can I borrow and for how long?
A maximum of 10 items can be borrowed for a period of 3 weeks and can be renewed twice unless reserved by someone else.

How can I register to borrow?
In order to borrow Auburn Hospital employees and Notre Dame medical students can fill in a library registration form then visit Auburn Hospital Library with identification during opening hours (7:30 to 15:00 Mon, Tue, Thu and 8:00 to 16:30 Wednesday) to complete their registration. All other staff should contact their Facility Library to register.


Interlibrary loans and document delivery

What is the interlibrary loan and document delivery service?
Interlibrary loan and document delivery is a service to obtain copies of journal articles and book chapters as well as loans of books when they are not accessible through Library eResources.

Is there a cost involved?
Auburn Hospital Library is part of a network of Health Libraries throughout Australia that provide copies of journal articles and book chapters as well as book loans for free. Majority of requests can be supplied by this network and there will be no charge involved.
However, there are times when a fee is charged for supply. The minimum charge is $16.50 per article. You will be contacted for approval prior to the request being sent if payment is required.


How do I request an interlibrary loan or document delivery?

  • If you have found a journal article using Ovid (e.g. Medline, Joanna Briggs Institute, Embase) click on the Request the Article link located to the right of the result. Fill in your details ensuring you select Auburn Hospital & Community Health Centre then click Order.
  • Fill in the Interlibrary loan and document delivery form. Please ensure you fill in one form per request.


Literature searches

What are literature searches?

A literature search is a systematic search using a wide breadth of information resources to obtain references on a specific topic.

How do I conduct a literature search?

Please see Library staff for help and training with conducting a literature search. The Library provides access to a range of eResources to assist you.

Can I request a literature search be conducted?

Librarians can conduct a literature search to assist with patient care and research based on capacity. To request a literature search complete a Literature Search form. Please ensure you fill in one form per request.

Purchasing items

How can I purchase an item for the library or my department?
To request an item be purchased for the library fill in the Purchase form – Library or to request an item be purchased for your department fill in the Purchase form - Department. All requests for Library items will be assessed and approved only if the purchase is in line with the Library’s Collection Development Policy and there are sufficient funds available. All requests for department items require approval from the head of your department and the cost will be charged back to your cost centre.

Why do department items need to be purchased through the library?
In line with WSLHD policies on purchasing, all books, journals and multimedia items to be held in your Department must be purchased through the Library. This ensures that all items are recorded in the Library Catalogue and can be accessed by all employees.


Can I get training on library resources and services?
Auburn Hospital Library provides training on any information and library topics. Scheduled training sessions are available in My Health Learning. Alternatively one-on-one or group training, inservices or orientations on the library can be arranged. For more information on training click here.

Auburn Hospital Library provides a range of other services including:
  • Access print and electronic books, journals and multimedia resources
  • Use computers to access the internet and intranet
  • Print, photocopy, scan, laminate and use the guillotine (paper cutter)
  • Utilise quiet study areas
  • Book the Audio-Visual meeting room for meetings, training or study groups
  • Reserve books from other WSLHD libraries for pickup
