The Thyroid Disorders Service
The Thyroid Disorders Service of the Department of Clinical Endocrinology of Westmead Hospital provides a comprehensive range of services covering the diagnosis, investigation, and management of the various thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroiditis, goitre, thyroid nodules, and thyroid carcinoma. The focal point of the clinical service is the Thyroid Clinic, held weekly in the University Clinics, which offers a fine needle aspiration biopsy service, as well as clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Radioactive Iodine therapy is offered for the treatment of hyperthyroidism and thyroid carcinoma.
The clinical service is supported by a strong research interest in thyroid disorders, and has links with the Australian Centre for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders.
