The Western Sydney Local Health District Consumer Council is the main port-of-call for WSLHD to learn what matters to consumers across the district.

The role of Consumer Council:

The purpose of the Consumer Council is to represent the interests of the community and consumers on health issues that are local to Western Sydney. The council provides structure for Consumer Representative participation and discussion with WSLHD staff. Members collaborate with WSLHD staff in the planning, delivery and evaluation of health services.

What we want to achieve in Consumer Council:

  • Bring local health issues to the attention of WSLHD staff. Do services meet the needs of consumer or not? How could these services be improved? Are these health services accessible?
  • Participate in planning, delivery and evaluation of health services
  • Increase consumer knowledge and health literacy on health issues
  • Highlight consumer viewpoints and provide advice on how to engage with consumers
  • Promote health equity by highlighting the needs and views diverse consumers in Western Sydney
  • Develop and strengthen local networks and community partnerships across the district
  • Sustainable community of Consumer Representatives, systematic mentoring of new Consumer Representatives by experienced Consumer Representatives

The role of the Consumer Council is focused on advocating consumer needs and does not include: for example, complaints about a patient’s treatment or care. Complaints and feedback should be passed on to the Patient Experience Officer of each hospital.

Consumer Council meets on the first Tuesday of every month from 9am to 11am.
