Auburn Hospital is looking for passionate volunteers wanting to make a difference in a variety of roles including assisting both patients and visitors and “behind the scenes” assistance of our dedicated staff.

Volunteers at Auburn Hospital perform countless tasks that add that extra special touch to a patient’s journey. They form an invaluable resource by assisting patients, visitors and staff, making a significant contribution to the ability of Auburn Hospital to keep people healthy.

By engaging in patient and client activities, volunteers are a link between the clinical and nursing services, and together form a holistic approach to the quality health care that people need. Auburn Hospital Volunteers are valued members of the team and enjoy many benefits.

The Volunteer program at Auburn Hospital is currently seeking volunteers for the following roles

  • Outpatients Clinic Concierge – The Outpatient Clinics include Antenatal; Plastics\hand; Gynaecology; General Surgical; Kidney disease; Cardiology. The Volunteer Concierge will assist outpatients with directions to the appropriate clinic via both verbal directions & by escorting the visitor there. The Volunteer will assist staff by delivering paperwork and answering general enquiries from waiting patients and assist with updates including waiting times. The Volunteer Concierge will enjoy interacting with a variety of people, have a good level of fitness, have excellent communications skills and be able to handle occasional stressful situations.
  • Patient Support – Patient Support Volunteers provide company to lonely patients, assist with dementia sufferers, provide mealtime assistance including opening food packaging, making tea\coffee, assisting with tasks such as buying newspapers, arranging pillows, blankets etc (does not include making beds or other physical work), as well as assisting staff by delivering files & other items. The Patient Support Volunteer will be highly empathetic and enjoy closely assisting and interacting with a variety of people, have excellent communications skills and be able to handle occasional stressful situations.
  • Fundraising Stall - The Fundraising Volunteers operates a retail stall to raise funds for Auburn Hospital. Fundraising volunteers sell merchandise including handmade knitted and crocheted garments, toys and other items. Volunteers assist customers, sell items, set up and pack down tables and keep basic financial records.

All Volunteers are rostered 1 half or full day per week, Mon - Fri. Days are negotiable. Training & induction is provided. Additional language skills are beneficial but not essential.

All Auburn Hospital Volunteers must

  • be triple vaccinated against COVID-19 and adhere to mask wearing rules
  • have or be willing to obtain a Working With Children Check (WWCC). Free for volunteers
  • have or be willing to get appropriate vaccinations
  • be looking for an ongoing role
  • be 18 years of age or over
