Events

The District recognises and holds events to acknowledge significant dates in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander calendar, and offers live streaming opportunities (where possible) for those in the community who wish to view and participate.

Some of our key events include:

28 February 2024 WSLHD Annual Aboriginal Staff Conference
21 March 2024
National Close the Gap Day
26 May 2024 National Sorry Day
27 May 2024 to 3 June 2024 National Reconciliation Week
4 July 2024 to  11 July 2024 National NAIDOC Week

In 2023 we held the inaugural Ngalawa Burudi event – Aboriginal Family and Community Event on the lawns of Westmead Hospital, which sought to demystify our facilities, and reinforce a continued dialogue with the community. The event featured Mount Druitt DJ’s: The Fringe Dwellers, Australian Idol 2023 Winner, Royston, AFL legend, Michael O’Loughlin, ABC journalist, Marlee Silva, the Giants and Swifts and Brenden Moore from the Botanical Gardens. Similarly, we held our first Aboriginal Staff Conference at the Park Royal Parramatta to discuss best practise models of care and to celebrate some of the hard work and programs conducted by Aboriginal staff for the community.

Up-and-coming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events will be detailed here.
