Function of this clinic
The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department provides a full range of oral and maxillofacial surgical services.
Who this service is provided to
• All patients referred by general medical/dental practitioners and specialists for Medical-related surgical services (eg. facial trauma, facial infection, oral pathology).
• Eligible patients (Health Care Card Holders, Pensioners) referred by medical/dental practitioners and specialists for Dental-related surgical services (eg. dental extractions, wisdom teeth removals).
How to make an appointment
A referral letter must be sent to the Unit by the referring dental or medical practitioner for assessment. The referral will be assessed and coded according to clinical urgency and an appointment letter will be sent to the patient. Non-urgent or elective cases will be placed on a waiting list.
Method of referral
Referral letter (with relevant x-rays, records) from medical or dental practitioner which must include: patient’s details, contact information, medicare number and health care card number for patients seeking dental-related elective surgical services (see eligible patients above).

The Department provides 24 hr Emergency On-call service through the Accident and Emergency Department of Westmead Hospital for Maxillofacial Trauma and Facial Infections.
Transport, parking, access
Westmead Centre for Oral Health is situated at Westmead Hospital on Darcy Road, Westmead. Cityrail provides rail services to Westmead station and Westbus runs several bus services to and from Westmead Hospital. Direct taxi telephones are provided at the entrance of Westmead Centre for Oral Health. Limited car parking is available for a fee. Wheelchair access is available through the Westmead Centre for Oral Health entrance and the hospital main entrance and via lifts to all levels within the Westmead Centre for Oral Health.
