Introduction

The Maternity Liaison Officers (MLOs) support women and families from culturally & linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to receive maternity care. We provide individual education and support for women through their pregnancy, childbirth and after the birth of their baby. We work with the midwives, specialist doctors and other health providers to ensure that the care planned for you meets your needs. We will provide you with information on what services are available to you and how to access these services. We promote awareness within Westmead Hospital and the WSLHD of the health and social needs of CALD families. We work with Community organisations such as:

  • The Community Migrant Resource Centre
  • Cumberland Women’s Health Centre
  • Transcultural Mental Health Centre
  • Mental Health Association NSW
  • NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service

How to meet a Maternity Liaison Officer

We are available to see any woman from a (Culturally And Linguistically Diverse) CALD background who has attended the Women’s Health Clinic (WHC) for pregnancy care. Your midwife can refer you or we will be notified that you are having a baby for the first time in Australia. You can also request to the staff in Women’s & Newborn Health (WNH) that you would like to see the MLO.

Where are they located?

The Women's Health Clinic work in all areas of the W&NH Services and are located on Level 2, just inside the main Hospital entrance.
