International Day of People with a Disability

10 Dec 2015

International Day of People with a Disability was marked across the Western Sydney Local Health District in December.

The day was celebrated internationally on December 3 but events were held at Blacktown, Westmead and Mount Druitt hospitals throughout the month.

At Westmead Hospital on December 10, several staff teams competed in a hotly contested wheelchair basketball competition and got the chance to meet para-athletes Rhys Baxter and Jess Cronje.

Staff also enjoyed live music from Andrew Hewitt, who has Cerebral Palsy, and David Rowlands, who has an acquired brain injury, along with sausage sizzles, hot dogs and hamburgers.

Wheelchair basketball games were also held at Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals with staff keen to get involved in the various activities.

The events were organised by WSLHD disability employment consultant Kate Murdoch, who is vision impaired.
