Health Care Interpreter Service

Health Care Interpreter Service (HCIS)

Booking a Translator

Interpreting is the verbal transmission of speech from one language to another. Translation, on the other hand, is the written transmission of messages from one language to another.

HCIS provides limited translation services. Eligible organisations can forward requests for patient related translations to wslhd-hcis@health.nsw.gov. These may include overseas discharge letters, reports or instructions for patients.

Before forwarding your request, ensure that you are an eligible client by referring to the HCIS Client List. You can also enquire with HCIS about your eligibility by calling 9912 3800.

If you wish to translate health information material for general distribution among different CALD communities, please contact the WSLHD Translation Service on 8838 6210. For more information about the WSLHD Translation Service, visit the Translation Service website.
