Location

Westmead is 20 km west of Sydney CBD. The Staff Accommodation Complex is on the corner of Darcy and Bridge Roads, Westmead, 700m from the main entrance of Westmead Hospital. The complex is 1km from Westmead Children’s Hospital, and less than 1km from Westmead and Wentworthville Railway Stations. The closest shopping area is at Wentworthville, less than 1km away. 

  • The Accommodation Office entry is off Darcy Road (directly opposite Westmead Private Hospital).
  • Units: 1 to 110 (plus the office, shop and visitor parking) are accessible from the Darcy Road gate.
  • Units: 111 to 189 and Unit 200 are accessible from the Bridge Road gate.

Applications for Accommodation

All staff of Western Sydney Local Health District, The Children’s Hospital (Westmead), students of the University of Sydney clinical schools and health students of regional NSW universities attending Westmead Hospital are eligible to apply by application form.

The units are in high demand and there is often a waiting list.

The Accommodation Manager will allocate shared units on a gender basis.

Types of Units

There are 189 units at the complex:

44 x one bedroom units

44 x two bedroom units

31 x four bedroom units

70 x shared four bedroom units

The units are over 30 years old, and most have not been renovated. The buildings are 3 levels high and do not have lifts. Most units are fully furnished, including an electric stove, refrigerator, automatic front-loading washing machine, dryer, household furniture, curtains and carpets.  Tenants must bring their own bed linen, eating, cooking, cleaning utensils and small electrical items.

Electricity, Phone and Internet

Tenants are responsible for the payment, connection and disconnection of electricity, telephone, internet and pay-TV with providers. The negotiation of the sharing of costs will be the responsibility of co-tenants. The Accommodation complex management takes no role in the connection or payment of these services.

Rent Payments

One bedroom units ($280/week)

Two bedroom units ($310/ week)

Four bedroom units ($380/week)

Shared four bedroom units ($95 per person/week)

Undercover Car Space: ($20/week)

Responsibilities of Tenants

Tenants are expected to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in their unit at all times.

  1. For staff, rent must be deducted from a member’s salary, or via direct debit.
  2. For long-stay students, rental tax invoices will be issued fortnightly and must be paid within 2 weeks of receipt.
  3. For short-stay students, all rent must be paid up-front before keys can be issued.

Payment of Deposit:

All staff and long-term students must pay 6 weeks deposit before keys will be issued. This amount is fully refundable on vacating (with 2 weeks notice) providing units are left spotless, there is no damage and keys are returned.  This amount may not be put against rent payments.

Duration of Occupancy

  1. For staff and long-term student tenants the stay is 3 months to a maximum of 3 years. 
  2. For students requiring hostel rooms, the stay is for a maximum of 3 months.
