Process Communication Model (PCM)

PCM is designed to aid in the recognition and understanding of different personality types and support successful communication. Participants learn about the six personality types in order to recognise the effects of stress and distress in the clinical setting. Distress behaviours for all six personality types are predictable and sequential. During the workshop participants learn about the impacts of distress on patient safety, as all personality types make mistakes when under distress. Participants learn how to distinguish between bullying behaviours and distress, as well as how to feed the psychological needs of their colleagues in order to invite them out of distress, so that positive communication is restored and patient care is not impacted.

  • Observe and decode behaviour by being able to actually hear what others are saying
  • Predict and identify the onset of disruptive behaviour
  • Learn how to better influence others to achieve an outcome
  • Identify motivation and communication triggers in order to more effectively engage others
  • Detect and correct miscommunication before it creates a problem
  • Find out why conflicts have escalated
  • Respond quickly to defuse tricky situations
  • Invite others back into positive communication and behaviour
