Note: Clinicians and Notre Dame clinical students can fill in the library registration form to apply for after hour access to the Library.

Membership

How do I register?
Auburn Hospital employees and students can fill in a library registration form then visit Auburn Hospital Library with identification between 8:00-16:30 Wednesday to complete their registration. All other staff should visit their Facility Library to register.

Who can register?

All employees of the Western Sydney Local Health District, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District and the Children's Hospital at Westmead can use Auburn Hospital Library. However you will need to register at your Facility Library.

Can I access the Library after hours?
Auburn Hospital Library is open 8:00-16:30 Wednesday. Clinicans and Notre Dame clinical students can see Library staff to apply for access to the Library outside these hours.

Borrowing

How do I borrow?
You can borrow books using the self checking machine or see Library staff.

How many items can I borrow at a time?
You can borrow 10 items at a time.

How long can I borrow items for?
All items at Auburn Hospital Library, with the exception of serials which cannot be borrowed, can be borrowed for three weeks. If the item on loan is reserved by another staff member you will have one week to return the item. You can reserve items (see instructions below) twice for a period of 3 weeks each time so long as the item has not been reserved by another staff member.
Please note that the other Libraries, from Western Sydney Local Health District, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District and the Children's Hospital at Westmead, have different loan conditions for books. Ensure you check the due date and return items on time. Also be mindful that items from Westmead Hospital Library and Nepean Hospital Library can incur fines when overdue.

How do I renew items?

You can renew items by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Library Catalogue
  2. Enter your Borrower ID (found at the back of your employee card) and Password at the top right of the page. If you do not have a Borrower ID please see Library staff or if have not yet registered for the library complete a registration form then visit your facility library with your identification to complete your registration. If you do not know your password click Forgot Your Password?
  3. Click My Account toward the top right of the page
  4. Click Current Loans
  5. Tick the items you would like to renew 
  6. Click Renew Selections 
Alternatively, contact library staff for assistance.

How do I reserve items from another Library?
You can reserve items from another Library to be picked up at Auburn Hospital Library by contacting library staff. If the item is currently borrowed you can reserve the item yourself by following these steps:
  1. Go to the Library Catalogue
  2. Enter your Borrower ID (found at the back of your employee card) and Password at the top right of the page. If you do not have a Borrower ID please see library staff or if you have not yet registered for the library complete a Registration form then visit your facility library with your identification to complete your registration. If you do not know your password click Forgot Your Password?
  3. Search for the item you would like to reserve
  4. Tick the items you would like to reserve
  5. Click Reserve Selections

What do I do if I have trouble borrowing using the self checking machine?

Note down the issue (e.g.: error message, security gates alarmed on exit) on the pad of paper beside the machine. Library staff will be in touch during opening hours.

 

Purchasing items

Can I request an item be purchased for the Library?
Yes you can request for an item be purchased for the Library by filling in a Purchase form - library. All requests for Library items will be assessed and approved only if the purchase is in line with the Libraries Collection Development Policy and there are sufficient funds available.

How do I purchase an item for my Department?
In line with WSLHD policies on purchasing, all books, journals and multimedia items to be held in your Department must be purchased through the Library. This ensures that all items are recorded in the Library Catalogue and can be accessed by all employees.

You can request for an item to be purchased for your Department by filling in an Purchase form - department. All orders for your Department must be approved by the head of your Department and will be charged back to your cost centre.

Technology

Are there computers available to access?
All employees are welcome to use Library computers to access the intranet, internet (apply for access to Information Technology Services) and the Information Resources available through the Library such as the Library Catalogue and the Clinical Information Access Portal. 

Can I photocopy and print?
A printer is available for work-related purposes. There is also a multi-function device for work-related purposes in the Photocopy and Stationary room that can print, scan and photocopy both black/white and colour.

Call number classification scheme

Books in the library are organised on the shelves according to the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme.

  • Go to the Library Catalogue
  • Enter your Barcode No (found at the back of your employee card)
  • and PIN at the top right of the page. If you do not have a barcode number please see Library staff to register for the Library and obtain a barcode number. If you do not know your password click Forgot Your PIN?
  • Current Loans
  • Renew Selections

Reserve items from another Library

You can reserve items from another Library to be picked up at Auburn Hospital Library by contacting library staff. If the item is currently borrowed you can reserve the item yourself by following these steps:

  • Tick the items you would like to reserve
  • Click Reserve Selections

 

New item email alert

If you would like to be notified via email when a new item is added to the catalogue based on certain criteria follow these steps:

  • Go to the Library Catalogue
  • Enter your Barcode No (found at the back of your employee card) and PIN at the top right of the page. If you do not have a barcode number please see Library staff to register for the Library and obtain a barcode number. If you do not know your password click Forgot your PIN?
  • Click the New Alert Profile tab
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to fill in all required details
  • Click Save

 

Create and view saved lists of items


The Library Catalogue allows you to save items to lists to view later. To create and view lists follow these steps:

  • Go to the Library Catalogue
  • Enter your Barcode No (found at the back of your employee card) and PIN at the top right of the page. If you do not have a barcode number please see Library staff to register for the Library and obtain a barcode number. If you do not know your password click Forgot your PIN?
  • Search for items
  • Click the small arrow next to Savedlists, click Add new savedlist, enter a Description then click Add
  • Tick the items you would like to save then click Save Selections to save into your newly created list
  • If you would like to change the list to save to click the small arrow next to Savedlists, under Change savedlist to: select the required list, then follow step 5 above.
  • To view your saved lists, click on the Home icon then click My SavedList
