My name is Danny O’Connor, Chief Executive of our new Local Health District which commenced operations on 1 January 2011.
I will be working with the Local Health District Board, local clinicians and our community to provide the best possible health care to the people of The Western Sydney Local Health District.
Local Health Districts have come about as a result of the NSW Government’s support for national health reform. NSW was the first state in Australia to implement these new locally managed health Districts.
Our Local Health District has been set-up in accordance with the National Health and Hospital Agreement.
Local decision-making is at the forefront of how the new organisation will function, led by a professional Health District Board and LHD Chief Executive.
I will work closely with the Board to ensure our LHD delivers consistently high patient care, supported by enhanced local input from clinicians and the community.
The Western Sydney Local Health District Board is chaired by Professor Stephen Leeder AO and ten Board Members who bring a wealth of experience and local knowledge to the management of our LHD.

The next few months will see the structure of our new Local Health District fully develop.
I will keep this website up-to-date, so that you can monitor our progress and get to know more about how your local health system is working.
I would like to acknowledge the help being given to us by our colleagues from the Area Health Service of which we used to be a part. We are working together to build our capacity in all aspects of the Local Health District operations.
The Health District Board and I welcome your comments and suggestions. Please get in touch with us.
